The refurbishment of this historical residential building emphasizes the qualities of the original apartments with their well proportioned spaces, traditional materials and detailing.
The intention was to improve upon these found spaces by adding modern technology that would compliment the timber structure, vaulted ceilings, suelo hidráulico (encaustic tiles) and brick walls. Smart home technology together with Led lighting that picks up upon the characteristic architectural expression of this Modernisme era building complements rather than dominates the new apartments.
The refurbishment provided 12 two bed apartments in total including ground floor duplex and two penthouse apartments with roof terraces. Particular attention was devoted to the stairwell, with a new lift inserted, that recalls the importance of these shared spaces in Barcelona’s residential neighborhoods.
